LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Softball team nearly swept the GSC Weekly Awards on Tuesday, with Madison Wright being named the Pitcher of the Week and Ella Watson receiving recognition as the conference's Freshman of the Week.

Wright registers her third GSC Pitcher of the Week selection while Watson picks up the first Freshman of the Week recognition of her young career.

Wright's petition for an All-GSC selection continued to grow this past week after the senior put together three stellar outings for the Tigers. For the week, the lefty recorded a pitching line of 18.0 IP, 0.39 ERA, 9 H, 1 ER, 1 BB, 12 SO, winning all three of her decisions. On Wednesday against Georgia Southwestern, Wright found herself four outs away from a Perfect Game before closing out the Hurricanes to secure her second complete game shutout of the year. The senior followed up a masterful performance against GSW with two more marvelous outings against Union to help extend West Alabama's win streak to 10.

On the year, Wright is now 12-6 with a 2.87 ERA along with one save.

As for Watson, she continues to shine bright at the plate and in the outfield for UWA. The freshman put together a .333 batting average along with a pair of RBIs and seven runs. Watson has shown maturity at the dish all season long as she leads the team with 20 walks and that didn't change this past week. The freshman drew five more walks in five games against Georgia Southwestern and Union to accumulate a .529 on base percentage. 

Watson's emergence is a major reason for the Tigers' current winning streak as she's now up to a .293 batting average along with two Home Runs, 16 RBIs, and a .425 on-base percentage.

Wright, Watson, and West Alabama will be back in action this weekend when they travel to Nashville, Tennessee for a three-game series against Trevecca Nazarene.
