Box Score MONTGOMERY, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Women's Tennis team moved on to the GSC Semifinals after sweeping the Delta State Statesmen, 4-0, on Wednesday.
This was a really good match for the Women," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "We came out aggressive and played great in doubles, but Delta State pushed us in singles. They competed in every single match, but we did what we needed to do and picked up a good win."
No. 1 West Alabama (15-5, 8-0 GSC) began the match against Delta State (1-16, 1-8 GSC), winning the doubles point. The doubles duo of Shaira Rivera/Valentina Mutilba and Alexa Milliam/Emiri Takanishi handled their business, securing 6-2 and 6-0 victories in Lines One and Two.
In singles, Lolita Hukasian was the first to finish as the junior defeated DSU's Angela Moreno, (6-0, 6-1) in Line Five to put the Tigers up 2-0. In Line Six, Greta Zawels took care of Isabella Llano in straight sets, (7-5, 6-1) before Valentina Mutilba clinched the match for UWA with a (6-2, 7-5) decision in Line Three.
"I think having a competitive match on Day One will only get us ready for Day Two," Beaman closed.
West Alabama's semifinal match is set against West Florida with first serve slated for 10:00 a.m. from Lagoon Park.
