Softball Puts 10-Game Winning Streak on Line in Series Against Trojans

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Softball team is set to host the Trevecca Nazarene Trojans this weekend for a three-game series.

The series is set to begin on Friday at 12:00 p.m. at the UWA Softball Complex before the two GSC teams wrap up the series on Saturday with a double header that's slated to begin at 12:00 p.m.

Even though this weekend's series will be played in Livingston, Trevecca Nazarene will still technically be the home team.

West Alabama (24-12, 13-8 GSC) comes into the weekend, riding a 10-game winning streak after completing a weekend sweep against Union this past weekend. As for Trevecca Nazarene (20-12, 9-12 GSC), they enter after winning two out of three against Christian Brothers this past weekend.

With just one month remaining in the regular season, the Tigers are peaking at the perfect time. Pitching and defense remain the strengths of this West Alabama team as they rank second in the conference in team ERA and fielding percentage with marks of 2.34 and .970. Madison Wright is the anchor of the Tigers' rotation as the senior lefty comes into the weekend as the reigning back-to-back GSC Pitcher of the Week. In three appearances this past week against Georgia Southwestern and Union, Wright put together a 3-0 record along with a 0.39 ERA, making her 12-6 with a 2.87 ERA on the year. Eleanor De Block has been just as good in the number two spot in the rotation, bringing a 9-2 record with a 2.46 ERA into play against the Trojans.

Offensively, Marissa Mitchell remains atop of every opposing scouting report that UWA will play this season. Mitchell is currently batting .417 along with 10 Home Runs and 27 RBIs, leading West Alabama in nearly all of the major offensive categories. The senior returned to the Tigers' lineup last week after missing six games with a concussion and found her rhythm at the plate during UWA's series against Union, finishing the series 4-5 at the dish. Alongside Mitchell, Taylor Clegg and Ann Marie Stanbridge continue to produce. Clegg brings a .368 batting average along with five Home Runs and 22 RBIs into this weekend's action, while Stanbridge is hitting .336 with two Home Runs and a team-high 30 RBIs.

While Mitchell, Clegg, and Stanbridge are proven veterans, Ella Watson is quietly putting together a solid campaign for the GSC Freshman of the Year award. The Outfielder is batting .293 on the year and has drawn a team-high 20 walks, leading to a .425 on-base percentage. With Watson exceeding expectations and Haley Shannon getting comfortable again after nagging injuries, West Alabama is primed to make a real run deep into the Spring, but a tough test awaits them in the form of Trevecca Nazarene.

The Trevecca Nazarene Trojans were ranked in the top-20 of the preseason NFCA Coaches Poll and come to Livingston with 20 wins to their name in 2025. The Trojans have dominated their non-conference schedule, holding a perfect 11-0 record against Non-GSC schools but have struggled in conference as they carry a 9-12 GSC record.

TNU possesses one of the best pitchers and overall players in the country in Ashlan Sensing. Sensing is 14-6 on the season and sits fourth in the league with a 1.70 ERA in the circle. The senior right hander is holding opposing batters to a .188 batting average in 128.0 innings of work. While she's excellent on the mound, the senior is also dangerous at the plate, batting .333 in 66 at bats. Sensing will more than likely get the start in Game One and Three of this weekend's series and will give UWA's hot offense a true test.

On the offensive side for the Trojans, Brianna Asmondy leads the way. Asmondy leads Trevecca Nazarene in Home Runs and RBIs with nine and 26, respectively, while carrying a .344 batting average. The junior is surrounded by talented bats in the order with Annabelle Ellis, Sensing, and Sarah Kinderdine all hitting over .300. Ellis leads the team with a .373 average at the plate while Kinderdine is batting .314 along with three Home Runs.

It's bound to be an electric weekend at the UWA Softball Complex this weekend between two of the conference's most talented teams.

First pitch on Friday is set for 4:00 p.m. while Saturday's double header is slated for 12:00 p.m.
