LIVINGSTON, Ala. - After a flawless freshman campaign, the University of West Alabama Women's Tennis' Alexa Milliam has been named the ITA National Freshman of the Year.
Milliam becomes the first UWA player in school history to earn National Freshman of the Year honors and becomes the first to win it within the Gulf South Conference in 18 years.
"Alexa is a player that we are very fortunate to have and we are all so proud of her," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "I see her as a player that can compete for National Player of the Year next season."
In the 2025 campaign, Milliam went a perfect 19-0 in singles, with 15 of those victories coming in Line Two and four coming in Line Three. The freshman phenom only dropped four sets the entire season, stating her claim as one of the most dominant players in the country.
To begin the year, Milliam knocked off Alabama State's Carmelle Vial in straight sets to earn a Division I win, before going on to record seven ranked wins in 2025. At the season's end, Milliam finished ranked 20th in the country in singles play, the highest amongst all freshmen in the country.
The freshman's dominance carried over into doubles play as she registered an overall record of 16-3. Milliam closed the year with a 16-1 record with partner Emiri Takanishi in doubles action, adding on to her impressive ledger.
After an eye-opening first year, Milliam has put the entire country on notice and is slated to hold the No. 1 spot in singles for the Tigers next season.
