LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The University of West Alabama women's basketball team returns to Pruitt Hall this week as it enters the second half of Gulf South Conference play, hosting West Florida on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before welcoming Valdosta State on Saturday at 2 p.m.
The Tigers come off a hard-fought 71–62 loss to UAH, a contest that featured multiple scoring runs and 17 second-chance points by West Alabama. Despite matching UAH in third-quarter scoring and closing strong in the fourth, turnovers proved to be the deciding factor.
Thursday's matchup brings West Florida (13–5, 8–3 GSC) to Livingston for the first time this season after the two teams met earlier in conference play on the road. The Argonauts enter the contest on a two-game winning streak with victories over Auburn Montgomery, 72–65, and Montevallo, 93–68. Amelia Bell leads West Florida offensively at 13.5 points per game, while Isabel Grimes adds 12.8 points per contest.
West Alabama will then face Valdosta State (9–8, 6–5 GSC) on Saturday afternoon, also marking a home rematch after the teams opened conference play against one another earlier this season in Valdosta. The Blazers are riding a two-game win streak after defeating both AUM and Montevallo. Erin Whalen paces Valdosta State, averaging 14.5 points per game.
With both contests at Pruitt Hall, the Tigers look to capitalize on home court as the GSC schedule turns toward its final stretch.
