Tigers Continue Home Slate with Midweek Doubleheader Against Golden Bears

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Softball team continues their home slate on Wednesday with a 4:00 p.m. doubleheader against Miles.

West Alabama (7-3-1) enters Wednesday's matchup on a three-game winning streak with wins coming over Georgia College & State and Emmanuel University. As for Miles (5-5), they enter after a pair of losses to UAH on Saturday.

UWA's contest against Miles on Wednesday serves as the final non-conference matchup before conference play begins this upcoming weekend. The Tigers' pitching staff has been stellar through the first 11 games as they currently hold a 2.05 ERA. West Alabama's 2.05 ERA ranks third in the GSC through 71.2 innings. Eleanor De Block, Megan Roe, and Ann Marie Stanbridge have accumulated majority of the innings, with De Block serving as the ace. All three of UWA's pitchers carry an ERA under 3.00, with Stanbridge registering a 1.14 mark in 12.1 innings of work. Roe is right behind her with a 2.02 ERA while De Block carries a 2.63 along with a team-high 35 strikeouts.

At the plate, UWA brings in a team batting average of .262. Stanbridge, Haley Shannon, and Ella Watson are all batting over .350. Watson has been West Alabama's best overall hitter through 11 games, carrying a stat line of .355 BA, three Home Runs, and 11 RBIs. The sophomore is also leading the squad in slugging percentage, on-base percentage, total bases, and stolen bases.

Stanbridge has been reliable in the three-hole spot, bringing a team-high .371 batting average along with six RBIs into Wednesday's contest. Shannon is the Tigers' lead-off hitter and is currently hitting .361 with four RBIs and three stolen bases.

Miles has had an up-and-down start to the 2026 season. Four of the fives losses for the Golden Bears has come by way of the run-rule.

Offensively, Miles has been well above average, hitting .329 as a team. While contact hitting hasn't been a problem for the Golden Bears, the power has, as they've only hit two Home Runs in 216 at bats. Graduate Student Gabriela Garcia leads the way offensively with a .462 batting average along with two Home Runs and seven RBIs. Junior Delaney Gray has missed two games this season but still leads Miles in batting average and RBIs with a .500 (9-18) mark and eight RBIs.

Outfielder Jada Odom, Catcher Cassie Willis, and Infielder Mia Vazquez are also batting over .300 for the Golden Bears and will need to continue providing depth down the order for Miles if they want to upset the Tigers on Wednesday.

On the mound, the Golden Bears have struggling, turning in a 6.47 Team ERA up to this point. Gray, who will also be in Miles' lineup, leads the team in ERA with a 3.09 mark in a team-high 22.2 innings. The junior is also holding opposing batters to a .226 batting average. Gray was tested by Montevallo and UAH's offense earlier this month and allowed a combined nine earned runs through 4.2 innings. If the junior takes the mound on Wednesday, she'll be in store for another test against an UWA lineup that's continuing to find their rhythm.

First pitch is set for 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday while Game Two is slated to begin 30 minutes after the conclusion of Game One.
