LIVINGSTON, Ala. - The University of West Alabama Women's Tennis team is set for the ITA Indoor Championships In Indianapolis, beginning on Friday and concluding on Sunday.
The top eight teams in the country received an invitation to the Indoor Championships. Within the bracket along with West Alabama is No. 1 Barry, No. 2 Nova Southeastern, No. 3 North Georgia, No. 4 Flagler, No. 6 West Florida, No. 7 Catawba, and No. 8 UIndy.
West Alabama enters the Indoor Championships as the Five-Seed and is slated to play Four-Seeded Flagler in the first round on Friday at 9:00 a.m. CST.
This season, the Tigers are 2-1 with wins coming over Tuskegee and Division I Alabama State. Shaira Rivera is the reigning GSC Player of the Week and is a combined 5-0 in singles and doubles play this year. Valentina Mutilba and Jenaila Prulla are both a perfect 3-0 in singles play while holding a 2-1 doubles record.
UWA's top singles player from last season, Alexa Milliam is still searching for her first singles win of the year while newcomers Jian Ibrahim and Nanoka Kazama have both picked up one win thus far. Greta Zawels gives the Tigers great depth and enters the weekend 1-1 in singles play on the young season.
For Flagler, they're currently the fourth ranked team in the country. The Saints went 23-6 last season and have begun the new campaign, 1-1. Going back to the Fall season, Elena Ondobo holds the best singles record on the team, coming into the Championship, 14-3. Eryka Kruk is close behind with a 13-4 record in singles while Sofia Balaera enters with a 10-5 singles record.
Friday's first round matchup serves as a great opening test for West Alabama, with the winner of Barry/UIndy waiting for the winner on Saturday.
