INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - The University of West Alabama Women's Tennis team captured third place at the ITA Indoor National Championships with a 4-3 win over No. 2 Nova Southeastern on Sunday.

With wins over No. 4 Flagler and No. 2 Nova Southeastern, No. 5 West Alabama officially clinches third place.

This was a good win against a very good team," said head coach Jeff Beaman. "We learned a lot from this on what we need to work on to reach the goal of a National Championship in the spring."

The Tigers bounced back to take a narrow one-point victory after losing the doubles point to begin the match. Greta Zawels and Nanoka Kazama swept their doubles match 6-0 but the losses on Line one and two resulted in the Sharks taking the doubles point.

UWA dominated singles play, with Alexa Milliam, Valentina Mutilba, Jenaila Prulla, and Kazama all winning their individual matches.

Kazama followed up her doubles win with a dominant singles victory in Line six. Kazama defeated Nova's Gia Fine, (6-2, 6-2) to get UWA on the board. Prulla notched another point for West Alabama in Line Five with a (6-0, 7-6) victory over Noemie Dadoun. On Line Three, Mutilba also won in straight sets (6-3, 7-6) before Milliam clinched it for the Tigers (6-4, 6-4) on Line Two.

With a third place placement in the ITA Indoor Championships, West Alabama will now resume their regular season next weekend as they travel to Tyler, Texas for a three-match invitational.
