LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama rodeo program is set to compete in East Mississippi Community College's Home Rodeo in Meridian, Mississippi, beginning Thursday.
West Alabama's men's team enters the weekend sitting in second place in the Ozark Region, while the women's team is currently third. Both squads earned second-place finishes at Murray State's Home Rodeo this past weekend.
MEN'S RODEO
In their return to action last weekend, the Tigers secured 595 points, the second-most they have recorded at a rodeo this season. UWA now holds 1,985 points on the year and is led by Tanner Brown, Kota Wilhite, Stone Reeves, Clarke Gordon, and Teigan Orr.
Brown enters the new week after accumulating 315 points while competing in the tie-down roping and team roping events. Brown teams up with Gordon in the team roping event, and the duo recorded 160 points at Murray State's Rodeo last weekend.
Wilhite is currently the top tie-down roper in the region, carrying 270 points on the year entering the weekend, while Reeves ranks fourth in both the men's all-around and tie-down roping standings.
Orr continues to lead UWA in steer wrestling with 210 points. Orr advanced to the championship round last weekend along with Evan Bourdon and Austin Brooks.
The Tigers feature a deep roster and will look to continue building momentum this weekend in Meridian.
WOMEN'S RODEO
West Alabama had eight athletes advance to the championship round last weekend, with Madison Murphy and Ashley Teems leading the way. Murphy thrived in the barrel racing event, while Teems made her mark in breakaway roping.
Allie Sherman is now second in the Ozark Region with 250 points, just 20 points shy of first place. Sydney Poole, last season's all-around champion, currently sits sixth in the barrel racing standings with 190 points while ranking second in breakaway roping with 198.3 points.
In goat tying, West Alabama is led by Meah Pinter. Pinter made an appearance in the championship round at Murray State's Rodeo and now ranks eighth in the region in the event.
Similar to the men's team, the UWA women possess a deep roster and will look to capture their first win of the season this weekend after placing fourth in the last four rodeos.
East Mississippi's Home Rodeo begins Thursday, with action concluding Saturday night.
