Tigers Continue to Climb in National Polls Behind Dominant Pitching

LIVINGSTON, Ala. — The No. 5 West Alabama baseball team continues to rise on the national stage, moving up in two of the three major polls following a series win over No. 17 West Florida.

The Tigers climbed to No. 4 in the ABCA Coaches Poll and No. 8 in the NCBWA National Poll, while holding steady at No. 11 in the D2 Baseball poll.

West Alabama's steady ascent comes as no surprise given its dominant performance on the mound throughout the season.

The Tigers currently rank second in NCAA Division II with a 3.40 team ERA, establishing themselves as one of the nation's most consistent pitching staffs. They also sit seventh nationally in hits allowed per nine innings (7.75) and ninth in WHIP (1.29), highlighting their ability to limit both contact and baserunners.

That pitching dominance has translated directly into success within the Gulf South Conference.

West Alabama leads the GSC in team ERA at 3.40, nearly three-tenths of a run better than the next closest team. The Tigers have also held opponents to a .236 batting average, the best mark in the conference.

Complementing the pitching staff is a balanced offensive attack that ranks among the league's best. The Tigers are third in the GSC with a .302 team batting average, totaling 387 hits, 281 runs scored, and 36 home runs through 40 games. Their .447 slugging percentage and .409 on-base percentage further underscore their ability to generate consistent offense.

Defensively, West Alabama has also been solid, posting a .970 fielding percentage, which ranks second in the conference.

The combination of elite pitching, timely hitting, and reliable defense has fueled the Tigers' 31-9 record and positioned them as a contender both in the GSC and nationally.

With momentum building and rankings continuing to climb, West Alabama now turns its focus to maintaining its strong play as they head to a red hot Lee University squad on Friday, April 17th at 4 PM.
