Red Hot Tigers Begin Homestand with Midweek Doubleheader Against Hurricanes

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama softball team returns home Tuesday, opening an eight-game homestand with a doubleheader against Georgia Southwestern at 2:30 p.m.

West Alabama (33-10-1, 20-7 GSC) enters on a five-game winning streak and has won 15 of its last 18 contests. Georgia Southwestern (17-27, 4-17 GSC) travels to Livingston after dropping two of three to Middle Georgia State this past weekend.

With two weeks remaining in the regular season, the Tigers are arguably playing their best softball of the year. UWA's team batting average has steadily climbed to .304, tied for fourth in the GSC. In the circle, Eleanor De Block, Megan Roe, and Ann Marie Stanbridge continue to lead the way, leading the Tigers to a 2.34 team ERA.

Stanbridge is one of the hottest players in the country. The senior hit .625 with two home runs and six RBIs in UWA's sweep over Lee this past weekend. She is now batting .571 with seven home runs and 17 RBIs over her last 12 games. On the season, the first baseman/pitcher is hitting .351 with eight home runs and 33 RBIs.

Haley Shannon remains the team's leading hitter, batting .354 in the leadoff spot. The junior enters the series after hitting .500 against Lee. Ella Watson ranks among the top hitters in the GSC, bringing a .314 average along with 11 home runs and 30 RBIs into Tuesday's matchup. Trinity Hatcher is also making a strong case for All-GSC honors, as the sophomore is hitting .292 with seven home runs and 19 RBIs after batting .407 over her last nine games.

UWA's offense has been red-hot, while its pitching staff continues to deliver consistent performances, setting up a tough matchup for Georgia Southwestern.

The Hurricanes enter Tuesday's contest with a 17-27 record in what has been a challenging 2026 season. Despite the record, GSW holds a .291 team batting average and a 4.60 ERA but has struggled to find consistency.

Kendall Huelsman and Madison Banks lead the offense. Huelsman, a senior infielder, tops the team in all three major offensive categories, batting .398 with seven home runs and 41 RBIs. Banks follows closely with a .394 average, along with one home run and 19 RBIs.

Erin Garland and Lani Dansby are also hitting above .300. Garland, a true freshman, is batting .331 with 17 RBIs and leads the team with 14 stolen bases. As for for Dansby, she's hitting .308 with 22 RBIs on the year.

In the circle, Carlee Johnson and Pyper McCard have logged the most innings. Johnson is 6-11 with a 4.17 ERA, while McCard holds a 6-8 record with a 3.41 ERA.

First pitch for Tuesday's doubleheader is set for 2:30 p.m.
