CLINTON, Miss. - The University of West Alabama Women's Tennis team fell to No. 7 Mississippi College in Clinton, Mississippi on Wednesday.
Wednesday's contest between No. 4 West Alabama (14-4, 3-2 GSC) and No. 7 Mississippi College (20-0, 8-0 GSC) was a highly competitive match that came down to Line Six singles.
The Choctaws took the Doubles point to take a 1-0 lead over the Tigers. The reigning GSC Player of the Week, Jenaila Prulla secured the first singles point of the day for West Alabama with a (6-3, 6-3) win over Rune Van Wyk. Mississippi College quickly responded with a (6-0, 6-4) victory in Line Two by Rocio Martinez Azcarraga.
With the match now tied at 2-2, Shaira Rivera earned a hard fought victory on Line One while MC's Anna Hudson did the same on Line Four. The match came down to Line Six singles that featured West Alabama's Nanoka Kazama and Mississippi College's Ann Cabot Stockett. Kazama won the first set and led 4-3 before Stockett made a comeback to win the match, (6-7, 6-4, 7-6) to clinch the victory for the Choctaws.
West Alabama will be back in action on Friday at 2:00 p.m. for a matchup against Christian Brothers.
