Richesson, Harper, Walsh Earn GSC Weekly Awards

LIVINGSTON, Ala. - After defeating Pittsburg State, 24-23 in the home opener, the University of West Alabama Football's Luther Richesson, Joseph Harper, and Eion Walsh took home GSC Weekly Awards on Monday.

For the third consecutive week to begin the season, Richesson is the GSC Offensive Player of the Week. Harper earns the first Defensive Player of the Week distinction of his season while Walsh repeats as the conference's Special Teams Player of the Week.

Richesson has been excellent for the Tigers through three weeks, leading to his third GSC Offensive Player of the Week award. In UWA's one-point win over No. 25 Pittsburg State, the Quarterback threw for 262 yards and three touchdowns on a 68.8 percent completion percentage. Richesson connected on touchdown strikes to TD Parker and Griffin McLean while also adding 37 yards on the ground. On the season, Richesson has now thrown eight touchdown passes along with 678 passing yards and 174 yards rushing.

Harper accounted for one of West Alabama's five takeaways on Saturday against the Gorillas. With the Tigers leading by one with 2:51 left in the game, Harper forced and recovered a fumble with Pittsburg State approaching the redzone. That play was arguably the most impactful takeaway of the game and served as a major reason for West Alabama holding on for their one-point win. Along with his forced fumble and recovery, Harper totaled 6.0 tackles and 1.5 tackles for loss to earn the first GSC Defensive Player of the Week award of his UWA career.

With Elijah Guyton out due to injury, Walsh served as the Tigers' Placekicker, Kickoff Specialist, and Punter on Saturday. The freshman buried a 46-yard field goal, while accumulating eight punts for 317 yards. Walsh pinned Pittsburg State within their own 20 on three separate occasions to earn his second consecutive GSC Special Teams Player of the Week distinction.

Richesson, Harper, and Walsh will lead West Alabama on Saturday when they play host to the North Greenville Trailblazers at 6:00 p.m. at Tiger Stadium.
