LIVINGSTON, Ala. – University of West Alabama setter
Rachele Zanini has been named the Gulf South Conference Freshman of the Week for the second consecutive week, the league announced Tuesday.
Zanini helped guide the Tigers to a perfect 4-0 record during the Reddie-Tiger Invitational, recording 134 assists and 32 digs across the four victories.
The freshman opened the weekend with 17 assists, five digs and two aces in a sweep of LeMoyne-Owen. She followed with a career-high 52 assists and 18 digs in UWA's five-set victory over Henderson State. Zanini also added seven kills while hitting .300.
Zanini continued her strong play Saturday, distributing 30 assists in a straight-set victory over Texas A&M International. She closed the weekend with 35 assists, five digs and an ace as the Tigers swept Erskine.
The honor gives Zanini back-to-back GSC Freshman of the Week awards to begin her collegiate career.
