West Alabama Falls 61-58 to No. 22 Arkansas Tech

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – No. 22 Arkansas Tech erased a 15-point second half deficit to hand the University of West Alabama men's basketball team its second loss of the season. UWA falls to 3-2 on the year while ATU improves to 4-1.

Alquan Mendenhall led UWA with 14 points as Trevell Coleman added 13 points. Ryan Fitch chimed in 10 points to round out the double figure scorers for the Red and White. Richard Dixon paced UWA on the glass with 10 point rebounds.

UWA outscored the Wonder Boys 20-16 in the paint but Tech received 37 points from its bench as the Red and White only collected 13 points from its reserves.

The Tigers – leading 36-26 at the half – extended their lead to 41-26 early in the second stanza. The 15 point margin was the largest lead of the game for the Red and White. After reaching 41 points, UWA went cold scoring as Tech chipped away at the deficit – narrowing the margin to 41-39 – behind a 13-0 run.

UWA managed to push the margin out to 55-47 - over the next seven minutes. ATU once again worked the advantage down and with 35 seconds remaining in the game the Wonder Boys took their first lead - since the 15:47 mark of the first half - as Davis hit a jumper. A pair of Matt Haney free throws with 13 seconds left iced the contest for nationally ranked Tech.

UWA finished the game shooting 42.9 percent from the floor while holding the Wonder Boys to just less than 30 percent from the field.

The Tigers raced out to a 16-7 lead after the first 10 minutes of the game. UWA extended its lead to as many as 11 points - with just under six minutes to play before the intermission – on a trey by Mendenhall. Tech pulled within six points late in the opening stanza but UWA closed out the half with an 8-4 run for the 10 point lead.

Willie Sanders lead all scorers with 24 points. Johnie Davis supplied 11 points while James Causey added 10 points for Tech.
