UWA Looks to Snap Streak Against Statesmen

LIVINGSTON, Ala. -- The University of West Alabama men's basketball team looks to snap a two-game losing as UWA (3-3) hosts Delta State on Thursday, Dec. 2. Tip-off is scheduled for 8 p.m. Live stats and video will be available at www.uwaathletics.com.

The Tigers started the season with a 3-1 record before falling in their last two outings – evening their overall mark. UWA – which is outscoring its opponents 74.7 to 66.2 on the season – is led by junior guard Alquan Mendenhall. The Pine Hill, Ala. native is averaging 18.5 points per game. Jonathan Griffin and Ryan Fitch join Mendenhall in scoring as Griffin is averaging 10.5 points with Fitch supplying 10 points per game. On the glass, Griffin – a Marrero, La. product - is pacing the Red and White with 8.3 rebounds per outing.

The Statesmen (2-4) enter after falling in their last two contests – falling to GSC East Division foes UAH and North Alabama. Chris Poellnitz is the scoring catalyst for the Green and White – averaging 18.5 points per game. Ken Mitchell is the only other Statesmen averaging double figures in the scoring column with 10.8 per night. Mitchell and Jamarkus Holt are the leaders on the boards for DSU as Holt is pulling down 9.8 rebounds per game with Mitchell hauling in 9.0 boards.

Thursday marks the 57th meeting between the two schools with Delta State holding a 36-20 mark against the Tigers. It's the first contest between the two schools – in Livingston – since the 2006-07 season.

Following Thursday's contest, West Alabama hits the road for a three-game, road swing before the holiday break. The road trip starts on Saturday, Dec. 11 as UWA travels to Christian Brothers. Tip-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
