LIVINGSTON, Ala. – A six run, second inning helped the University of West Alabama baseball team to 14-0 rout of Concordia College on Monday afternoon. The win snapped a two-game losing streak for the UWA.
The Tigers (20-15) led 1-0 before exploding with the six runs. Sam McCormack started off the scoring in the inning with a two-run homerun. The homer scored Clint Brown, who led off the inning with a walk. Brian Simone followed three batters later with a bases loaded single that plated Dallas Rogers and Joseph Reed. After Kevin Deese reached base on a walk, reloading the bags, Colin McKeen was hit by pitch to push Jay Jennings across the dish. The final run of the inning came when Simone scored on a fielding error by the Hornet pitcher.
Five UWA hurlers took the rubber to one hit the Green and Gold in the outing, the fewest hits allowed this season. The Hornets lone hit came in the sixth inning as Jason Howell surrendered an infield to hit A. J. Ward. Tiger starter Colter Millican and Cory Lopez each tossed two innings in the affair with Brian Burgess, Howell and Dom Sapp each throwing an inning. Millican (5-2) secured the win.
The Red and White added a pair in the third and a single in the fifth before tallying four additional runs in the sixth inning. Stephen Dennis, Clint Alford and McKeen each carded a RBI scoring hit in the frame.
