Softball Ranked Ninth In The South Region

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. –  The NCAA Division II Women's Softball Committee has released the third installment of the 2010 regional rankings on Wednesday as the University of West Alabama is ranked ninth in this week's poll.

UWA entered the initial rankings in the eighth spot in the South Region, but slipped one spot since the first rankings were announced. The Tigers currently hold a 22-18 mark over in-region opposition. UWA moved to 34-19 overall on the season on Tuesday with a sweep over Judson College in Demopolis, Ala. The Red and White return to the UWA Softball Complex this weekend, April 17-18, against Lambuth University and Gulf South Conference rival North Alabama. Sunday's duel between UWA and UNA will be pivotal in determining one of the final GSC Tournament spots. The Tigers and Lions are currently tied for fourth with 9-12 league marks.

The GSC is well represented in the top 10 as UWA is one of six teams in the rankings. UAH sits atop the poll, followed by GSC East foe Valdosta State. UAM, ranked fourth, is one of two representatives from the GSC West. Ouachita Baptist is listed tenth. West Florida remained steady at No. 5.
