UWA Tennis Falls To UAB, 5-1

LIVINGSTON, Ala.The University of West Alabama men's tennis team dropped a 5-1 decision to NCAA Division I foe UAB on Wednesday on the UWA campus. 

 

The loss dropped the Tigers to 18-9 overall and awaits word from the NCAA Division II Tennis Committee on April 28 on its post season fate.  The Red and White are looking for its second-straight NCAA South Regional appearance after entering the post season for the first time in the program's history in 2009.

 

UWA's point came at No. 6 singles as Lucas Nunes was awarded the win after UAB's John Hollimon retired in the second set.  The Tigers battled the Blazers in the five other matches before falling in straight sets.  At No. 1, Danish Ahmad dueled UAB's David Zimmerman before turning in a 6-3, 6-4 defeat.  Benny Delgado Rochas dropped his match by the identical score to Tom Puetz of UAB.  UAB's Daniel Moser claimed a 6-2, 6-2 affair over UWA's Juan Felipe Tellez.
