LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The University of West Alabama men's basketball team returns to action on Thursday, Jan. 20 as UWA (5-9) closes out a season-long, five-game homestand against West Florida. The Tigers – who are 3-3 against West Florida under head coach Eddie McCarter with all three wins in Pruitt Hall - look to snap a three-game, losing streak that dates back to Dec. 31 – a 55-42 loss to Ouachita Baptist.
Alquan Mendendall continues to pace the Tigers in scoring this season. The Pine Hill, Ala. native is averaging 13.6 points per game – which stands at 19th best in the Gulf South Conference. The junior guard is second in the conference in 3-pointers made with 3.6 per game. Birmingham, Ala. product,
Ryan Fitch has joined Mendenhall in averaging double figures with 10.2 points per outing.
In the last five games, Fitch along with
Korielle Beavers has proven forces on the glass for the Red and White. Beavers have hauled in 10.6 boards while Fitch has grabbed 6.8 rebounds – during the stretch – and 7.0 during the season.
UWF (7-9) seeks to snap its own three-game, losing skid after dropping a 90-72 contest to North Alabama on Saturday. Mike Lewis and Jamar Moore pace the Argos in the scoring column. Lewis is averaging 16.4 points while Moore is scoring 15.9 points per outing. Moore also stands as the leading rebounder for UWF with 7.6 boards.
West Alabama returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 22 as the Tigers travel to Huntsville, Ala. to face UAH. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. The game will be broadcasted on ESPN 104.9 FM and at www.uwaathletics.com.
