LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Led by junior
Chanel Davis, the University of West Alabama volleyball team (7-3) powered past Birmingham-Southern Tuesday evening by a score of 3-1.
The Wilmington, N.C., native used 16 kills and a school-record attack percentage of .750 to overwhelm the Panthers. Davis broke the old game-high of .700 set by Erika Britton in 2002.
“I think she stepped up. She has been working on some things in practice. Yesterday she came in early and it showed tonight,” said head coach Tabitha Turner.
As a team, the Tigers were strong in most phases. Senior
Alexis McHale continued to put up impressive numbers, accounting for 52 assists in Tuesday's match. Also, senior
Angela Sanders had 12 kills to help the team to 57 total on the night.
UWA came out strong from the start. The Tigers took the first two games by scores of 25-16 and 25-19. Hoping to close out the Panthers in the third, the Red and White faced a fierce comeback from their opponents.
BSC went on to win the third game by a score of 25-20, before West Alabama returned the favor with a 25-20 win the fourth to take the match.
UWA now has a brief break before heading to Arkadelphia, Ark., to take on Henderson State and Lyon on Monday, Sept. 19.
