JACKSON, Tenn. – Freshmen
Clay Green and
Alex Brown lifted the University of West Alabama men's soccer team to win No. 10 on the 2012 season, as the Tigers ousted Union University, 2-1, Thursday evening.
With the victory, UWA moves to 10-3 on the year and improves its Gulf South Conference record to 6-1. Meanwhile, Union falls to 4-3-3 overall and 3-2-2 in the GSC. The Tigers also picked up their first GSC sweep of the season with two wins against the Bulldogs this year.
Brown started the Tiger scoring at the 15-mimute mark when he scored off the assist from teammate
Christian Adkins. UWA then built a sizable lead just 15 minutes later when
Clay Green scored unassisted.
Up 2-0 at the break, Union's Diego Santos tried to start a Bulldog rally at 32 minutes, but that try fell short as both teams were held scoreless in the final 45 minutes as UWA held on for the 2-1 win.
Despite the loss, Union took 10 more shots on the day with 20 during the 90-minute period. Meanwhile, Tiger goalkeeper
Jack Moore recorded six saves in the victory.
West Alabama now heads home to take on West Florida Monday at 5 p.m.
