UWA Soccer Wins Seventh-Straight

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. –  The University of West Alabama men's soccer team solidified its spot atop the Gulf South Conference standings on Sunday as the Tigers blanked Alabama-Huntsville, 2-0, for the squad's seventh-straight win of the year.

Going into two conference tests this weekend, UWA had yet to play a GSC game on the road. The Tigers leave Huntsville, Ala., on Sunday with a 2-0 record in conference road matches and more importantly moves to 9-1 overall and 5-0 in the GSC.

Helping UWA accomplish that task on Sunday was freshman Clay Green. A week after knocking in the game-winning goal against Christian Brothers in overtime, the Homewood, Ala., native once again stepped up for the Tigers with his two scores on the day.

Green's first, which put UWA up 1-0, came after 31 minutes of scoreless action between the two teams and gave the Tigers the momentum going into intermission.

Up 1-0, Green solidified UWA's win with a goal at 63:58 off the assist from Faison Mann as the Tigers claimed the 2-0 victory.

Part of UWA's success on the day came by limiting UAH scoring opportunities. The Chargers took just four total shots and two shots on goal, while West Alabama scored two goals off of five shots on goal.

Tiger goalkeeper Jack Moore was credited with two saves on the day and picks up his sixth win of the year to improve his record to 6-1. Kel Markert picked up the loss for the Chargers as his team falls to 1-9 overall and winless in GSC play.

Next up, West Alabama travels to Pensacola, Fla., to take on West Florida Friday at 7:30 p.m.
