Tiger Soccer Picks up Win No. 3

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – If two first half goals were not enough, University of West Alabama men's soccer player Thibault Charmey added insurance late in the second half with two goals that lifted the Tigers to a 4-1 victory against Talladega College on Friday.

With his squad now 3-1 on the year, head coach Matthew Thorne broke from his usual starting lineup in the contest against the Tornadoes, and his guys delivered with two first half goals and Charmey's performance in the second half.

“I am of course extremely happy to get the win tonight,” stated Thorne. “We started a lot of new players tonight, and I think it shows how much depth we have on this squad. To be 3-1 as a first-year program is an outstanding accomplishment and I look forward to a spectacular season ahead.”

Freshman defender Jonathon McLouth jump started the Tiger rally in the first with his second double-goal scoring effort of the season. Those two scores put UWA up 2-1 as the teams headed to intermission.

It was then in the final 45 minutes that Charmey came alive, scoring two goals to take his team to the win. His initial score came off a strike from about 30 yards out, before his second came off a penalty kick after a handball was called against the Tornadoes.

That final score by Charmey was enough to give the Tigers the 4-1 triumph.

The Tigers now travel to Americus, Ga., to take on Georgia Southwestern on Sunday at 3 p.m.
