Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Shorter posted a .181 attack percentage while holding West Alabama volleyball to .086 to defeat the Tigers 3-1 in Gulf South Conference action on Monday.
"I made some calls tonight that, I think, ended up costing us," said UWA head volleyball coach
Jordan Lay.
"This loss falls on me as a coach. I have to do a better job of putting this team in a better position to be successful and I felt like I didn't do that tonight. This loss is a tough one to take, but we need to rebound quick as we head to Valdosta tomorrow."
West Alabama (9-13; 2-9) claimed set one 25-20, but fell in sets two (25-20), three (25-14) and four (25-15). Shorter (12-8; 6-5 GSC) held the Tigers to a .057 attack percentage in set three and .000 in set four. The Hawks ended with nine total blocks while UWA finished with two.
Elizabeth Dowd, Erica Baker and Anna Graham each tallied three block assists for Shorter. Jasmine Crook led her team with 12 kills and totaled 18 digs.
UWA's
Yanesha Johnson led the floor with 14 kills.
Abby Ames led the Tiger defense with 15 digs.
The Tigers have a short turnover as they return to the court Tuesday night to take on GSC opponent Valdosta State on the road. The match is set for 6 p.m. in Valdosta, Ga.Â
