MONTEVALLO, Ala. – Emily Gerding shut out Montevallo's Juanita Ossa 6-0 in the final set to give West Alabama the victory and edge out Montevallo 5-4 on Tuesday.

Glen Fanelli. “She played a very strong number five player in Juanita Ossa. Emily played a flawless final set to seal the win for us. I am so proud of her.”
The women, now on a two game win streak, improve to 4-1 on the season. Montevallo falls to 1-3 on the season after losing its third consecutive competition.
UWA suffered a slow start as the No. 1doubles team,
Jill Furlong and
Natalia Cardenas, fell 9-8 to Niki Polcerova and Anais Robert.
Jill Furlong bounced back with two 6-3 victories over Haley Highfield.
Emily Gerding and Shannon MecEvoy both picked up wins in their singles competition and the doubles matches with
Helga Jeske and
Dasha Popova to give the Tigers the victory.
UWA women's tennis will now remain on the road to travel to Tuskegee to take on the Golden Tigers on Feb 21. The first match is set for 9:00 a.m.
