Tigers Blanked by William Carey

Box Score

HATTIESBURG, Miss. – William Carey shut out West Alabama for the first time this season to win 8-0 at Milton Wheeler Field on Wednesday.

“I thought the first half of the game we hung in there and pitched well,” said UWA head coach Gary Rundles. “But as the game went on we lost our intensity and fire. When we got behind we seemed to rollovewr and quit. There are still a lot of things we have to work on and get corrected."

The loss drops West Alabama to 4-11 on the season. William Carey has won three straight games and improved to 11-6.

Crusaders' starting pitcher J.D. Little picked up his second win and remains undefeated. Little gave up only five hits through seven innings and struck out four. West Alabama starting pitcher Zach Parks fell to 1-1, working two innings and giving up two runs and two hits.

Cade LaBlanc had two hits, scored two runs and drove in two to lead the Crusaders at the plate. Josh Podoris led the Tigers with two hits in three at bats

The Tigers enter Gulf South Conference action this weekend at Union University. West Alabama will travel to Jackson, Tenn., to take on the Bulldogs in a three-game series beginning with a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch for game one is set for noon.

“Sometimes it comes down to where you just have to tighten up and work hard to claw yourself out of a hole, and that's where we are right now," Rundles said. "The good thing is if we go up to Union and play like we're capable of playing we will come home 3-0. If we play like we did tonight we'll start off 0-3 in the conference.”
