Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama swept the Union Bulldogs in its Gulf South Conference double header season opener at Tartt Field on Saturday. The Tigers took game one 9-2 and game two 4-2.

UWA snaps a two game losing stint with now a two game win streak improving on the season to 6-11 and starting off 2-0 in the conference. Union now falls to 3-6 overall, 0-2 in the conference.

“I thought offensively, we swung the bats a lot better today,” said UWA head coach Gary Rundles. “In the first game we got a few big two out hits. In the second game we hit the ball early and got a good lead and I thought our pitching was outstanding.”

West Alabama pitching allowed only three hits in game one, a season best. The Tiger's starting pitcher Taylor Bratton recorded his third win in to move to 3-1 on the season. Bratton allowed only one hit and tallied four strikeouts through six innings. Union starting pitcher picked up his second loss to fall to 0-2 on the season.

Nick Bolleter starting game two for the Tigers and picked up his first win of the season. He improves to 1-2 this season. Jeremy White came into the final inning and gave up only one hit to claim his second save this season.  Union's Jared Davis allowed four runs and nine hits in six innings to pick up his thir loss and fall to 0-3.

Brett Langham led the Tigers at the plate in game one with two runs, two hits and two RBI's. Matthew Magee followed closed behind with two runs, two hits and one RBI. Kody Pinson led the Bulldogs with one run and two hits.

Adam Chamblee led the Tigers in game two with two runs, three hits and a RBI. DJ Turo tied the season high of three RBI's. Two of his RBI's came in the bottom of the first to put the Tigers ahead. Wacey Russell led the Bulldogs with one run and two hits.

“This should give us a lot of confidence going into tomorrow,” said Rundles.

“We have talked a lot in the past two days about starting a new season with our conference games. We can't do anything about our past but we control our future. I'm proud of how everyone came out today and played. As a coach I am excited to see what they do tomorrow.”

Both teams will meet again tomorrow in the series finally set for 1:00 p.m. at Tartt Field.
