Box Score 2 LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama swept West Georgia in a double header at Tartt Field on Saturday. The Tigers came from behind to win game one 3-2 in the 10
th inning. They controlled the entirety of game two to win 4-0.
“I thought our bench really set the intensity for us today,” said UWA head coach
Gary Rundles.
“We swung the bats well enough in the first game, but it was all about pitching. There first guy pitched really well and I thought Bratton did an excellent job. Ivey did a great job coming in and cleaning up in game one. In the second game Bolleter pitched all zeros the whole game. You just have to tip your hat to the pitching.”
West Alabama, now on a six game win streak, moves to No. 1 in the Gulf South Conference with a 5-0 record; 10-11 overall. West Georgia falls now falls to 14-6 overall; 3-2 in the conference. The Tigers sit just above UAH (18-3; 4-0) in the conference standings.
Brett Ivey (2-3) entered into the eighth inning of game one to strikeout five West Georgia batters. Ivey allowed only three hits to pick up his second win this season. West Georgia's Max Aeshlimann (0-1) gave up the winning run in the bottom of the tenth to pick up his first loss of the season.
Nick Bolleter (2-2) pitched all seven innings of game two to pick up his second win of the season. Bolleter gave up only two hits and tallied eight strikeouts. West Georgia's Randall Wright (3-1) started game two but gave up four runs to pick up his first loss.
In game one,
Adam Chamblee singled to right field with the bases loaded to send two runners home and tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning. In the bottom of the 10th inning,
Matthew Magee singled to shallow center field to send
Brett Langham home to win.
Langham picked up two more runs in game two.
Mitch Holgate also picked up a run and led with two hits in three trips to the plate.
Dylan Coleman and Galen Smith were the only West Georgia hitters to snag hits in the second game.
Both teams will meet again tomorrow for game three at Tartt Field. First pitch is set for 1:00 p.m.
