Furlong and Popova Win 100th in 9-0 Tiger Win

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Jill Furlong and Dasha Popova both recorded their 100th career win while helping the University of West Alabama women's tennis team to a 9-0 victory over Mississippi College Saturday at the Vaughn Tennis Complex.

The Tigers end the regular season with an 18-8 record and will enter the Gulf South Conference Tennis Tournament as the No. 4 seed, playing Alabama-Huntsville Saturday at 8:30 a.m. at Lagoon Park in Montgomery.

Furlong defeated Abby Bassie (6-0, 6-1) in No. 4 singles, while Popova beat Shelby Wagner (6-0, 6-0) in No. 3 singles. They join senior Emily Gerding in the 100 career match win club, who won her 103rd on UWA's senior day, by defeating Katie Kema (6-0, 6-0) in No. 5. 

Natalia Cardenas, Helga Jeske and Shannon McEvoy won singles No. 1, 2 and 6, respectively, in straight sets. Cardenas beat Mitzi Morgan (6-3, 6-3), Jeske beat Allison Boyd (6-2, 6-3) and McEvoy downed Kaylee Kilgo (6-0, 6-0).

Jeske and McEvoy, as well as Popova and Gerding won their doubles matches, 8-1, while Cardenas and Furlong took theirs, 8-3.
