LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Three student-athletes from the University of West Alabama were named to the 2014 Men's Soccer Daktronics All-South Region team on Monday. Senior
Thibault Charmey earned first team honors, while fellow senior Evan Beutler and junior Alex Brown were listed to the second team.The Gulf South Conference posted three players to the first team and 10 to the second. As a first team selection, Charmey is now eligible for Daktronics All-American consideration. Voting was conducted by sports information directors from the South Region.
Charmey, a native of Paris, France, adds to a lengthy list of credentials already earned this season. The midfielder was named the 2014 Gulf South Conference Player of the Year, marking his second time to receive the award, and GSC Tournament MVP for the first time. A 2014 Preseason All-GSC honoree, GSC Player of the week and 2014 GSC All-Tournament team, Charmey has been named to the All-GSC First Team twice, preseason team twice, tournament team twice and received the weekly honor a total of five times in his career.
Charmey closed the regular season as the GSC's leading scorer with his season high of12 goals, ranked 20
th in the NCAA. He is 18
th in the nation with 1.86 goals per game. Entering the post season, he is the program's leading scorer with 30 career goals and leads with16 career assists. A master of set pieces, he tallied UWA's first hat-trick against Mississippi College on Sept. 28, by scoring on a corner kick, free kick and penalty kick.
Alex Brown was previously named to the 2014 First Team All-GSC team, being named to the second team in 2012 and 2013. The Essex, England native is a dual threat for the Tigers, leading a defense that limited opponents to 21 goals during the regular season, while UWA totaled 40. Brown joined in on the scoring himself, contributing three goals, including the game-winner against Union. No stranger to finding the net from the back line, he holds eight goals through three seasons.
Evan Beutler earned All-GSC, All-Academic and Capitol One Academic All-American honors a season ago. This season, the senior Enterprise, Ala. native owns five goals and five assists. He tallied the game-winning goal against Delta State and Cumberland as well as added another goal and assist in the GSC Tournament Championship match against Shorter.
West Alabama, in its third season, finished as 2014 GSC Tournament Champions on a four game unbeaten streak and 12-6 overall; 6-3 in the GSC.
