Annual UWA Rodeo Showdown Begins Today

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The annual University of West Alabama Rodeo Showdown begins tonight and runs through Saturday at the Don C. Hines Rodeo Complex on the UWA campus with over 300 wranglers, riders and ropers from the Ozark Region's nine men's and seven women's teams participating.

Performances each night begin at 7:30 p.m. General admission is $10, children $5, with UWA students admitted free with a valid student ID. UWA All-Sports Passes will also be honored for admission. Parking is included in the cost of admission.

Scheduled competition events include bareback and saddle bronc riding, bull riding, calf roping, breakaway roping, steer wrestling, goat tying, team roping and barrel racing.

Prior to the beginning of Thursday night's activities former UWA Wrangler Tavarius Lewis, who lost his life in an automobile accident, will be memorialized wth a short ceremony by the UWA team.
 
"We are looking forward to the weekend and our hometown rodeo," UWA head coach Alex Caudle said. "It will be great to see everybody coming out to support the Tiger Wranglers. I expect a really good show."
 
"We have been working extremely hard and are prepared," Caudle said. "There is supposed to be pretty weather for the whole weekend, so we are expecting a great crowd."

The UWA men's team is currently seventh in the Ozark Region standings after one rodeo this season. Missouri Valley College leads the region, Tennessee-Martin is second and East Mississippi Community College is third. The UWA women are fifth in the region, which is led by Missouri Valley, Arkansas-Monticello, Three Rivers and EMCC.
 
Kesia Smith leads the Ozark Region in goat tying with 170 points and Marlee Malcom is fifth in breakaway roping. Jason Garcia and Lucas Brown are tied for third in the Ozark Region Team Roping heeler standings.
