UWA Women Win EMCC Rodeo, Men’s Team Finishes Second

MERIDIAN, Miss. - The University of West Alabama Women's Rodeo team took home first place at the EMCC rodeo on Saturday while the Men's team finished second.

The UWA women secured their first win of the year, by accumulating 240 points while the men placed second with 540 points.

WEST ALABAMA WOMEN'S RODEO: 240 Points

Sydney Poole continues to be a standout for the Tigers as the senior advanced to the Championship Round in the Breakaway Roping and Barrel Racing events. Poole finished with 120 points in the Breakaway Roping, putting her second on the leaderboard. Meah Pinter was alongside Poole in the Breakaway Roping, also finishing with 120 points as the duo combined for 240 points. Andi Norwood and Summerlin O'Neill were the Tigers' third and fourth participants in the Breakaway Roping Championship Round and combined for 65 points close out the event. 

Aubrey Mills was spectacular in the Barrel Racing event. The freshman led West Alabama with 120 points in the event which ranked second amongst the field. In the Goat Tying, Erin McLaughlin punched her ticket to the Championship Round and registered 45 points to help UWA to their first rodeo win of the 2025-26 season.

WEST ALABAMA MEN'S RODEO: 540 Points

After a bit of a slow start in the Fall, Tanner Brown has officially found his rhythm. The senior led the way for the Tigers over the weekend, advancing to the Championship Round in the Tie Down Roping and Team Roping events. In the Tie Down Roping, Brown placed first with 170 points before accumulating another 170 points in the Team Roping Event with his partner Clarke Gordon to win that event as well.

While Brown carried the load, Gordon, Austin Brooks, and Evan Bourdon all competed in the Championship Round across various events. After accumulating 170 points in the Team Roping event with Brown, Gordon recorded 30 points in the Tie Down Roping. As for Brooks, he competed in the Team Roping and Steer Wrestling, recording 145 combined points. Bourdon was alongside Brooks in the Steer Wrestling championship and registered 15 points to finish off the weekend.

After a successful effort at EMCC's Home Rodeo, West Alabama will be back in action next weekend Poplarville, Mississippi for Pearl River CC's Rodeo.
