AUGUSTA, Ga. – After losing in two of three doubles matches, No. 21 Georgia Regents University roared back to take four singles matches and defeat No. 9 West Alabama in men's tennis, 5-2, Friday at the Newman Tennis Center.
The Tigers dropped to 2-1 with the loss, while the Jaguars improved to 4-1.
UWA took a 2-1 lead after doubles, with
Adam Drysdale and
Manuel Grossmann defeating Romain Ferreira and Romain Brunie, 8-6, in No. 1 doubles and
Caspar Schuetze and
Nicolai Jochamowitz defeating Joao Gabriel Freitas and Gabriel Santos in No. 3 doubles, 8-6.
GRU Augusta swept the Tigers in singles. Ferreira downed Drysdale 6-4, 6-1 in No. 1 singles, Moritz Gehlhaus defeated Schuetze 6-3, 6-3, in No. 3 singles, while Arthur Andrade downed of
Christopher Woods 6-0, 6-1, at No. 5. At No. 6 singles, Santos defeated Jochamowitz 6-4, 6-7, 7-4.
West Alabama opens Gulf South Conference play Wednesday at home against Christian Brothers. The match begins at 2 p.m. at the Vaughn Tennis Center.
