LIVINGSTON, Ala. – West Alabama captured four of six singles matches to defeat Alabama-Huntsville, 5-4, in men's Gulf South Conference tennis action Saturday at the Vaughn Tennis Complex.
The win improves West Alabama to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in GSC play. UAH is 2-2 and 1-1.
The Tigers started in a hole with
Adam Drysdale and
Manuel Grossmann winning UWA's only doubles match. Jose Soto and Nestor Perez then defeated Drysdale and
Andrii Stratilenko in No. 1 and 2 singles, respectively.
"We found themselves behind after doubles play and knew that our lower singles courts would have to be strong," UWA head coach
Lisa Floyd said. "That is exactly how it played out with courts 3-6 winning convincingly in two sets."
West Alabama rallied to win singles matches in No. 3 through 6 to claim the narrow victory.
Caspar Schuetze won at No. 3, Grossmann at No. 4, Christopher Wood at No. 5 and
Nicolai Jochamowitz at No. 6.
