UWA Tennis Sweeps Delta State

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. – The West Alabama men and women's tennis teams both snapped a two-match losing skid by defeating Gulf South Conference opponent Delta State Friday. The women won, 5-1, and the men claimed a 5-4 victory.

Both UWA teams improved to 5-4 overall with the victories. The Tiger men are 3-2 in GSC play and the women are 3-3.

The women jumped out to a 2-1 lead after doubles play before Stanzi Stuijt, Evelyn Moreno and Madeline Skaras won in No. 1 through 3 singles to clinch the match win. The remaining three singles courts did not finish.

Stuijt and Skaras won No. 1 doubles, 8-6, before Moreno and Sandra Florez took No. 2 doubles by the same score.

The Tiger men also won two of three doubles matches to set the tone. Adam Drysdale won the No. 1 singles court, while Christopher Woods and Nicolai Jochamowitz claimed wins at No. 5 and 6 singles, respectively, to ice the win for UWA.

Drysdale teamed with Manuel Grossmann to win No. 1 doubles. Caspar Schuetze and Jochamowitz earned the win in No. 3 doubles.

Both teams return to GSC action on Monday, hosting Christian Brothers are the Vaughn Tennis Complex. Match time is 1 p.m.
