Tiger Tennis Has Good Showing at UWF Fall Tournament

PENSACOLA, FLA. – The West Alabama men's and women's tennis teams put together competitive outings at the University of West Florida Fall Tournament.

"This was a strong event with players from some good Division I and NAIA programs, along with ranked Division II teams," UWA head tennis coach Jeff Beaman said. "Several men and women had some good runs in singles and doubles and we learned a lot in regard to what we need to work on with each player moving forward."

Julius Kaverinen finished as the Flight 1 singles consolation men's champion and Anton Lof was the men's Flight 3 singles consolation finalist. Nicolai Jochamowitz finished as the men's Flight 4 singles finalist, while Henrik Sinkko and Lof were the men's doubles consolation champions in Flight 1. Christopher Wood/Honorio Fernandez won the men's flight 2 men's doubles consolation championship to round out a good showing by the Tiger men.

For the UWA women, Evelyn Moreno won the Flight 2 singles consolation championship. Amina Mukhametshina was the Flight 1 singles finalist and Georgina Morral the Flight 3 singles finalist. Teona Tatishvili ended her UWF run as a Flight 4 singles finalist, while Morral and Mukhametshina were women's Flight 1 doubles finalists.

The Tigers will host the UWA Fall Tournament beginning Friday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex on the UWA campus.
