Box Score LIVINGSTON, Ala. –
AJ Williams picked up a hat trick on his first three goals of the 2016 campaign as West Alabama men's soccer rebounded with an 8-1 victory over Louisiana College at Tiger Stadium on Wednesday.
The Tigers improve to 1-3 on the season, while the Wildcats fall to 0-5.
"We're delighted to bounce back after seeing tough results from some very good competition," UWA head coach
Matthew Thorne said. "We had a lot of players get on the score sheet, but it was the overall performance I was happy with."
"Defensively, we looked more compact and solid. On offense, our interchange was crisp, and we had some nice creativity that allowed us to create a lot of goals. We looked very good at moments today, but we need to shift our focus now to a quality opponent in USC-Aiken on Monday."
Williams netted his first goal of the night three minutes after kickoff, finding the back of the net on an assist from
Liam Ireland. Seventy-one seconds later,
Keegan McQueen set up
Sam Todd for his first goal on the year to give the Tigers a 2-0 advantage.
West Alabama improved its lead to 3-0 after
Liam Ireland found
Stephen Carroll in the center of the box in the 8
th minute for Carroll's second score of the season.
The Wildcats caught the Tigers off guard, drawing the score line to 3-1 as Andrew Turner netted a 33-yard goal in the 12
th minute.
After a lengthy stretch between scores,
Pablo Fierros connected with
Oreva Amata three minutes into the second half to put the Tigers ahead 4-1 on Amata's first score of the year.
Clay Green took advantage of a penalty kick awarded in the 49
th minute, improving West Alabama's lead to 5-1.
Williams netted his second score of the night, putting the Tigers in front 6-1 after connecting once more with Ireland. The assist marked Ireland's third of the match.
Williams completed his hat trick in the 79
th minute, beating the keeper with an assist from
Sam Todd.
Harrison Roberts notched his second score of the year, putting UWA ahead 8-1 in the 85
th minute.
Jean-Baptiste Meyniel grabbed the assist.
Joshua Bramwell (1-0) earned the win, making three saves on five shots faced. Nathan Gautreaux (0-5) took the loss, allowing eight goals on 32 shots faced in a 10-save performance.
West Alabama will get back to action on the road, facing off against USC-Aiken on Sept. 19. Kickoff is set for 4 p.m.
