UWA Men’s Tennis Downs UAH, 7-2, Evens Record at 3-3

HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – The West Alabama men's tennis team won all three doubles points and then took four of six singles matches to claim a 7-2 Gulf South Conference victory over Alabama Huntsville Sunday at the Charger Tennis Facility.

West Alabama won for the second straight match and evened its overall record at 3-3. The Tigers are 1-0 in GSC play. Alabama Huntsville fell to 4-4 and 0-1.

"This was a solid way for the men to start the conference schedule against a talented UAH team," UWA coach Jeff Beaman said. "We had a lot of matches that easily could have gone either way, but the men have continued to improve in the way they approach competition."

Julius Kaverinen, Honorio Fernandez, Christopher Wood and Anton Lof all won singles matches for the Tigers. Kaverinen and Fernandez were winners at No. 1 doubles, while Wood and Andrii Stratiienko won at No. 2. Lof and Nicolai Jochamowitz took the No. 3 doubles point.

West Alabama is host to Shorter in GSC play on Saturday at the Vaughan Tennis Complex. UAH travels to West Florida on Saturday.
