ITA Oracle

#17 Men's Tennis | 3/24/2017 9:45:00 AM

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Both the University of West Alabama women and men's tennis teams have climbed in the latest ITA Oracle Division II national rankings. The Tiger women are No. 22 and the men are No. 41.

The women jumped four spots to No. 22 and the No. 41 ranking is the first this year for the UWA men.

"Both teams had great starts to the year and it is good to see that reflected in the rankings," UWA coach Jeff Beaman said.  "We finish the season with several matches against ranked competition, so we now need to focus on finishing strong and being ready for the conference tournament."

Amina Mukhametshina climbed five spots to No. 26 in the national singles rankings, while she and Georgina Morral dropped one spot to No. 15 in doubles.

"Amina keeps winning and will continue to move up," Beaman said. "She and Georgina continue to have excellent results at number one doubles."

While 41st in the national top 50, the UWA men do not yet have a player in the national rankings.

Both the UWA men (7-9) and women (10-5) take on Valdosta State Saturday in Pensacola, Florida. The VSU men are ranked No. 7 in the nation and the Lady Blazers are No. 10. First serve is 3 p.m.
