Kiaran Maule’s Golden Goal Lifts Tigers to Win Over Mobile

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Kiaran Maule scored the golden goal in the second extra period as West Alabama defeated the University of Mobile, 2-1, in college men's soccer Monday at Tiger Stadium.

West Alabama improved to 2-0 with the victory. Mobile dropped to 2-1.

Maule's game-winner cam at 101:51 off an assist by Harrison Roberts and helped bring the Tigers back from being down 1-nil early in the contest thanks to an unassisted goal from the Rams' Casey Culver at the 10:20 mark.

"Kiaran Maule stepped up on the edge and slotted it home showing great composure," UWA coach Matthew Thorne said. "It was an absolute battle to the end. Credit Mobile. They are a quality team that is well coached, but Tiger Stadium is a special environment when we play with intensity.

"It was an excellent performance from the lads," Thorne said. "Mobile is a top NAIA side who beat the No. 2 team (Rio Grande) in NAIA just two days ago. We went down 1-nil and battled back, so I am very happy with the lads' character."

Ali Brador tied the game at 1-1 with a goal at the 11:43 mark. Jean Baptiste Meyniel had the assist, his third in just two matches.

UWA keeper Brad Louis improved to 2-0, saving four of the five shots on goal that he faced. UM goalie Guiherme saved three of five. West Alabama outshot Mobile 13-10.

West Alabama returns to the pitch Friday in Miami Shores, Florida against Barry College. Mobile is host to St. Thomas-Houston on Friday.
