Men’s Basketball Signs Darron Johnson

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – The West Alabama Men's Basketball team continues to add talent as Darron Johnson has signed his National Letter of Intent to join the Tigers.

Johnson, a native of Palm Beach, Fla., joins UWA after a stellar season for the Western Oklahoma State College Pioneers in Altus, O.K., where the six-foot-two, 195-pound guard led the Pioneers in scoring averaging 26 points per game which was good for third in the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) in scoring per contest.

"We look forward to Darron joining our program. He is a scorer," said Head coach Allen Sharpe. "With the loss of several key contributors off last year's team Darron will have the opportunity to step in right away. His coach at Western Oklahoma, Rolando Delaberra, is someone I trust and has been a friend for a long time. Ro runs a first-class program and his kids are always prepared for the next level. We are expecting big things from Darron as we compete for a Gulf South Conference championship."

Johnson shot 44 percent from the floor, 79 percent from the free throw line and 39 percent from behind the arc while also averaging 3.1 assists and 2.5 rebounds a game.

The new signee's recent accolades include being named NJCAA Men's All-Region 2, Oklahoma Collegiate Athletic Conference All-Conference and NJCAA All-American Honorable Mention.

Johnson joins Tyrus Grayson and Tomias Brand as summer period signees for the Tigers.
