Tigers Fall, 5-2, in Exhibition at Troy

TROY, Ala.– The University of West Alabama men's tennis team opened the spring season with a 5-2 exhibition loss to NCAA Division I opponent Troy on Monday at the Lunsford Tennis Complex.

Erik Nordblom and Noah Johansen picked up singles wins for the Tigers at No. 4 and No. 6 singes, respectively/ Henrik Sinkko and Ilari Vesanen won at No. 3 doubles for the Tigers, but the Trojans won the doubles point.

"It was a competitive match that we had our chances in several spots to win," UWA head coach Jeff Beaman said. "The true benefit of this match is good competition after the long layoff from the fall season and having the guys realize we need to pick up the intensity of certain things in practice to reach our potential."

Nordblom was a 4-6, 6-2, 6-2 winner over Chris Taker. Johansen defeated Jorge Poyatos 4-6, 1-6 (3), 10-8 in the two singles wins for UWA.

Sinkko and Vesanen were 7-5 doubles winners over Oskar Michalek and Manuel Bernard.

The Tigers return to action Wednesday in another exhibition match at Alabama State. First serve is set for 1 p.m. Troy is host to Auburn-Montgomery on Friday.
