Annual Red-White Game Kicks Off Huge Saturday for Tiger Athletics

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – Saturday's Red-White Spring Football Game kicks off a huge day of Tiger athletics that mixes in helping others and ends with the annual party of the year in Sumter County.

The spring game kicks off at 10:30 a.m. at Tiger Stadium. There is no admission charge, but the West Alabama football players are asking Tiger fans to bring donations to assist tornado victims in Lee County. Several players' families were affected by the storms.

Still very much in need are donations of cleaning supplies, clothing infant care and canned goods. Needed items include bottled water, granola bars, diapers, baby formula, baby wipes, hygiene products, soap and deodorant.

A drop off location will be provided at Tiger Stadium for those wishing to assist in the recovery efforts.

"Our players and coaches are excited for our Red and White game this Saturday," Tiger head football coach Brett Gilliland said. "We will have teams split up and play a regular game with limited special teams play.

"It is always good for our players to be able to put on a show for fans and show the hard work they have put in this spring," Gilliland said. "Even though this will not culminate our spring practices, it will be a great chance to get an early look at the 2019 Tigers."

Immediately following the spring football game, first pitch for a Tiger Gulf South Conference softball doubleheader against Shorter is at noon. Tickets are $5 and are available at the gate. UWA students are free with valid ID.

Both the men's and women's tennis teams are hosting Delta State at the Vaughan Tennis Complex. First serve is 2 p.m. and admission is free.

UWA baseball finishes the competition portion of the day by hosting Shorter in a single game at 5 p.m. at Tartt Field. Admission is $5 and tickets are available at the gate. UWA students are free with valid ID.

"We hope everyone plans to come spend the day in Livingston with several teams playing on campus and our 2019 Drawdown Saturday night," Gilliland said.

The Drawdown gets underway at 6:30 p.m. at the Bell Conference Center. A $100 ticket includes one Drawdown entry, plus food and beverages for two and an opportunity to win $5000 and other prizes. Music will be provided by Austin Bishop and the food catered by Big Mike's Steakhouse. Tickets are still available for the Drawdown from any member of the Tiger football staff or by going to www.uwa.edu/drawdown19
