Ladner Leads Tiger Wrangler Men to Third at MVC

MARSHALL, Mo. – Ryder Ladner finished first in calf roping and was the reserve champion in steer wrestling to lead West Alabama to a third place finish on the men's side of the Missouri Valley Rodeo. The UWA women finished eighth.
 
The Tigers rang up 430 points, trialing Tennessee-Martin (670) and Missouri Valley (530). Three Rivers (355), East Mississippi Community College (320) and Southern Arkansas (90) rounded out the men's field.
 
Missouri Valley won the women's team title with 470 points, followed by Tennessee Martin (350), EMCC (300), Arkansas-Monticello (195), Southern Arkansas (190), Northwest (Miss.) Community College (160), Central Missouri (70) and UWA (30).
 
"We had some mistakes that cost us a better finish," Tiger Wrangler head coach Daniel Poole said, "but everyone is back to grinding away in preparation for the home rodeo this weekend."
 
Ladner won the calf roping with an average of 20.6, while Jacob Watt was third with a 22.3 average. Ladner posted a 10.1 average to finish second in steer wrestling. Chase Graves was sixth in steer wrestling.
 
West Alabama hosts the Annual Rodeo Showdown Thursday through Saturday at the Don C. Hines Rodeo Complex on the campus of the University of West Alabama. Performances begin each night at 7 p.m.
 
Cost of admission is $10 for adults, $5 for kids and free for children 5-years-old old or younger and UWA students with a valid ID.
