UWA Softball Preview at MC

WHO
West Alabama opens the 2020 Gulf South Conference slate in a series against the Mississippi College Choctaws.

WHERE
Due to poor field conditions thanks to all the rain, UWA and MC will play the series at Rene T. Warren Field on the campus of Hinds Community College in Raymond, Mississippi.

WHEN
Action set to start Friday at 6 p.m. for a single game with a double header scheduled for a 2 p.m. start Saturday at 2 p.m.

HISTORY
The Tigers and Choctaws have met 70 times before the weekend and MC holds a 39-31 edge all-time. Both teams split a doubleheader on April 20, 2019 in a series shortened by a rain-out. The Tigers won the first game 3-1 and Mississippi College won the second contest, 9-2.

WEST ALABAMA
UWA enters the weekend 3-6 on the season. The team went 2-2 in the Gulf Coast Invitational to start the season and 1-4 in the Florida Tech Invitational last weekend.

MISSISSIPPI COLLEGE
The Choctaws are 4-3 to start the season with a 2-2 effort in the Gulf Coast Invitational to start the season and went 2-1 with the two wins to end the McGhee/Hawkins Invitational in Arkadelphia, Arkansas.

COACHES
Carie Dever-Boaz is 74-90. (.451) in her 4th season as head coach of UWA Softball, 314-364-1 (.462) in 26 seasons as a collegiate head coach. Brooke O'Hair is 385-233 (.623) in her 14th season as a head coach, all at Mississippi College.

FOUR OR MORE
When the offense is going strong, it's hard to beat the Tigers. UWA is 3-1 this season when scoring four or more runs with the only loss being the final game of last week's tournament to Florida Tech 6-5 won in walk off fashion by the Panthers.

HOMEPLATE QUEEN
From homecoming court to leading in the batter's box, Chrissy Tubbs is leading the team in batting at .333 and tied for the team lead with four RBIs and three stolen bases. She's one of two players (Hayes Fulford the other) with both a two hit game and a three hit game so far. Tubbs is the only player with more than one multi-RBI game and is currently on a two-game hit streak.
