Women Win EMCC Rodeo, Men Third

MERIDIAN, Miss. – The University of West Alabama women's rodeo team put together 385 points to win first place in the 8^th Annual East Mississippi Community College Intercollegiate Rodeo at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center this weekend.

The UWA men finished third, and have finished third in all six rodeos during the 2019-20 season.

The UWA women outdistanced a nine-team field, finishing 155 points ahead of second-place EMCC (230). Central Methodist (150) was third, followed by Southern Arkansas (130) and Northwest (Miss.) Community College (115) to round out the top five. Missouri Valley (115) was sixth, followed by Tennessee-Martin (80), Arkansas-Monticello (65) and Murray State (65).

Missouri Valley won the seven-team men's side with 725 points, followed by Southern Arkansas (570), UWA (400), UTM (320), EMCC (190), Three Rivers (100) and Arkansas-Monticello (80).

"Coach (Lucas) Brown and I are very proud of the way our women's team has come together to push each other through this challenging practice weather," UWA head coach Daniel Poole said. "Their effort paid off this weekend."

Top performers for West Alabama included Heather McLaughlin, who finished second in breakaway roping with a 4.8 average and second in goat tying at 16.1. Jaide Ellick was sixth in goat tying, adding 70 points to the women's coffers. Aldyn Ashton finished seventh in breakaway.

Trevor Colby was fourth in both calf roping (23.9 average) and steer wrestling (21.1 average). Wyatt McCann was seventh in calf roping.

The Tiger Wranglers are back in action March 12-14 at the Arkansas-Monticello Rodeo.
