Men's Basketball Returns to the Court Versus West Florida

LIVINGSTON, Ala. – After an extended time off for the holidays, the West Alabama men's basketball team returns to action on Friday, Dec. 31, when it hosts conference rival West Florida. The Tigers, 10-2 overall and 3-1 in conference play, are undefeated at home and look to continue the streak in a 6 p.m. tipoff inside Pruitt Hall Gymnasium.

UWA is riding its best start in program history and is led offensively by junior guard Kortrijk Miles. The Dallas, Texas native has played in 12 games with 11 starts to average 18.9 points per game and 7.3 rebounds per game. The two-time GSC Player of the Week ranks first in the conference in scoring and second in rebounding.

West Alabama's second-leading scorer is last week's GSC Player of the Week Shardarrion Allen. In a career-best performance against Palm Beach Atlantic, Allen scored 24 points and 15 rebounds for his third double-double of the season. The Bolton, Miss. native averages 12.8 points per game and 5.8 rebounds per game on the season.

West Florida is 11-1 overall and 5-0 in conference play in its seventh season under head coach Jeff Burkhamer. Sophomore guard Daniel Sofield leads the Argonauts to average 16.5 points per game. Wendell Matthes leads UWF in rebounding to average 7.1 boards per game. He is also the only other Argonaut averaging double-digits with 12.6 points per game this season.

The game will stream live on the UWA Athletics YouTube channel and on SLY104.9 with commentary by Mark Gilliam. Live Stats will be available on the UWA athletics website.
