Women Second, Men Fourth at EMCC Rodeo

MERIDIAN, Miss. – Heather McLaughlin scored a pair of top five finishes to lead the University of West Alabama women's rodeo team to a second place finish at the East Mississippi Community College's 9^thAnnual Intercollegiate Rodeo at the Lauderdale County Agri-Center.

Paced by a second place finish from Ryder Ladner, the Tiger men took five of the top 10 spots in calf roping on the way to finishing fourth on the men's side.

East Mississippi Community College put together 480 points to win the women's side of the rodeo, followed by UWA with 255, Missouri Valley with 200, Tennessee-Martin with 150, Arkansas-Monticello with 95 and Central Methodist with 85.

Missouri Valley took home the team title on the men's side by racking up 1,025 points. EMCC was second with 710, followed by Tennessee-Martin with 550, West Alabama with 515 and Southern Arkansas with 210 to round out the top five. Three Rivers with 140, Northwest (Miss.) Community College with 70 and Pearl River (Miss.) Community College with 50 completed the field.

McLaughlin put together a pair of 2.5 runs in breakaway roping, coming up just short of EMCC's Mikayla Almond who had a 2.2 and 2.7 to win by a tenth of a point. McLaughlin's 14.8 average was good enough for fifth in goat tying.

Sebrena McAnally chipped in a ninth place finish for UWA in barrel racing and Jaide Ellick was ninth in goat tying for the Tiger women.

Ladner's second place finish in calf roping highlighted an effort that landed four Tiger Wranglers in the top five of the event. Ladner's performance was complimented by JT Ellison in third, Chase Graves in fourth, Wyatt McCann in fifth and Blayne Saine eighth.

Jacob Watt teamed with his brother Matt from EMCC to take third in team roping, while Cooper Malone and West Smith of EMCC were 10^th. Ellison finished sixth in steer wrestling.

West Alabama returns to the Ozark Region circuit this weekend at the Pearl River Rodeo in Poplarville, Mississippi.
