A Pair of Program Records Fall at Bulldog Relays

STARKVILLE, Miss. – Performing against some of the top programs in any level of NCAA competition, the University of West Alabama track and field team represented well during the two-day Al Schmidt Bulldog Relays hosted by Mississippi State University at the Mike Sanders Track & Field Complex March 26 and March 27.

"I'm impressed with the way our athletes competed this weekend," said Head coach Kirby Patterson Walker. "They had the opportunity to compete against some of the best athletes in the country across every division, which resulted in us producing several personal bests."

Annaya Chelcy was once again the highest finisher for the women with time of 12.09 in the 100-meter dash for 14th place and completed the 200 meters in 24.55 seconds for 15th place. Both times posted for Chelcy set new program records in the respective events.

Nate Sanford turned in the highest finish on the day for the Tigers as he placed 10th in the 400 meters in 48.20 seconds, which was just .5 seconds behind the winner Leon Clarke from Mississippi State. In the same event, Demetrius Jackson finished in 49.54 seconds, Kelvin Poe in 50.34 and Jonathan Davis in 50.45 seconds.

The same quartet of Sanford, Jackson, Poe and Davis came in third in the 4x200 meter relay in 1:27.32.

Also, in men's action Kyle Rock finished the 800-meter run in 1:55.93 which was good for a 15th place finish. Max Valdez also competed in the 800-meter and produced a time of 2:04.34.

Terri Sturdivant placed 15th in the 400-meter dash in 57.54 which was just short of another program record time. Jailah Swain finished in 58.93 seconds in the 400 meters as well.

Myflore Methlus competed in the women's 100 meters and finished in 12.19 seconds for an 18th place effort. Also competing in the 200 meters, Swain clocked a time of 25.45 seconds and Sturdivant posted a time of 25.59 seconds. Stephanie Barrett competed in the 800 meters and finished the race in 2:25.83.
